Clubs - Miami

Some information on Miami sent to me by Alfie Carbonell (carbonel@studentc.msu.edu):

Miami, as many of you may know is, is a happening modeling hot spot. The place to see and be seen. Unfortunately as far as acid jazz goes, the scene is not so strong. It is however an excellent house scene. What follows are the two places to hear a-j spun while in Miami.
Hercules @ Lua's (Sunday nights)
409 Espanola Way
South Beach, FL
Hercules is held in a small dark club tucked away on Espanola, a small side street off of the main strip, Washington Ave. Hercules spins mostly funk and rare groove. You do however hear a-j thrown in here and there. The scene is smoky, good looking people, and gets really good at about 2 am. Miami is a late town so don't worry about closing the place down because chances are you'll probably get sleepy before that. If you wear caps, make sure to remove it before getting to the door b/c many of the clubs have this silly rule, no hats. Just put it back on right after you walk in. There is no cover, 21+.

Fat Black Pussy Cat
Sugar, one of the DJs at Hercules also spins at Fat Black Pussy Cat on Mondays. This is straight up funk. Check out the New Times for directions to the club. There is a password, if you know it you get right in, if not you wait in line for a while.

Chamber of Funk @ The Chili Pepper (Tuesday nights)
621 Washington Ave
South Beach, Fl
(305) 756-0425
Acid Jazz, Hip-Hop, Funk, Reggae. I did not have time to check this place out. Cool bar/restaurant/club with about 2 billion other night clubs right next to it.

Animal Farm
1443 Collins Ave Space F
Miami Beach, FL
(305) 673-6566
This is the store of my friend Don Busweiler and his clothes line, Pervert. You will find other stuff like Stussy, Jive, Fuct, 26, Giant Steps, X-Large there as well. Stop in to check the place out and pick up any fliers for clubs. They usually know the line on Acid Jazz and Hip -Hop happenings. You may also catch Don or one of his employees spinning on the in-house 1200's.

The New Times
This is the city paper which has all the goings on as far as food, clubs, and music. Pick one up free on most any corner and scan it for your tastes.

Groove Jet, 23rd Street Miami Beach
They play acid jazz and rare grooves! A really hip place with three music rooms.
The Mo Jazz Cafe
It's located one block west of Colins Ave on 71ST in Miami Beach.
